PerfectTablePlan Newsletter 87

PerfectTablePlan v7 news

We are continuing to make steady progress on PerfectTablePlan v7.

We have also added a new proximity: Near not next to.

Merge import guests

If 2 guests have Near not next to proximity, then the automatic seat assignment will attempt to place them on the same table, but not at adjacent seats. This is traditional at some types of events for married couples, but not engaged couples. Presumably because engaged couples might still want to talk to each other!

So the meanings of all the proximities now are:

  • Next to : Try to place in descending order of preference: 1) in adjacent seats, 2) on the same table, 3) on a nearby table.
  • Near to : The same as Next to, but not as strongly weighted (Next to gets priority).
  • Near not next to : Try to place in descending order of preference: 1) on the same table, but not at adjacent seats, 2) on a nearby table.
  • Neutral : It isn’t important where these guests are placed relative to each other.
  • Not next to : The same as Not near to, but not as strongly weighted (Not near to gets priority).
  • Not near to : Try to place in descending order of preference: 1) on a different table that isn’t nearby, 2) on a different table.

We have used the Yin Yang symbol for Near not next to proximity. But we are open to suggestions, if you have a better idea.

This feature is in addition to the new v7 features described in:

Sign up now to try the V7 beta

If you have a valid PerfectTablePlan v6 licence, you will be able to try PerfectTablePlan v7 beta release for free, for a limited period before the production release.

PerfectTablePlan is a large and complex program and we have made lots of changes. Beta testing by customers helps to find issues that we weren’t able to find in our own testing, sometimes due to differences in operating system, printer and system set-up. So we hope lots of you will take part in beta testing. As well as helping to make the release as reliable as possible, it will also give you a chance to send us feedback on the new features in v7.

The beta version will hopefully be available within a few weeks. To get access to the beta release, please sign up for the v7 beta email list. You will then be emailed as soon as beta releases are available. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Signing up does not oblige you to buy an upgrade to v7 or do anything else. All we ask is that you send us feedback on any issues you encounter.

The 3 customers who send us the best feedback will get a free PerfectTablePlan v7 Professional edition individual licence. Sign up for more details.
