Windows support

PerfectTablePlan now supports Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11, 64 bit only.

Microsoft has been transitioning Windows from a 32 bit operating system to a 64 bit operating system since 2003. Previous versions of PerfectTablePlan shipped as a 32 bit application, which worked on both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows. But 32 bit Windows is quite rare now and there are potential compatibility issues with running a 32 bit application on 64 bit Windows (e.g. talking to printers). So we have transitioned PerfectTablePlan to a 64 bit application from this release onward. This means that PerfectTablePlan v6.2.1 won’t run on old 32 bit versions of Windows.

To check if your copy of Windows if 32 or 64 bit see: 32-bit and 64-bit Windows: Frequently asked questions or just try installing the new release (you will get an error message from the installer on 32 bit copies of Windows).

If you have an old 32 bit copy of Windows, then you will still be able to run PerfectTablePlan v6.2.0 or earlier. We wouldn’t recommend trying to upgrade an old PC to 64 bit Windows 11 and you do so very much at your own risk. Maybe treat yourself to a new PC with 64 bit Windows in the January sales!

Mac support

PerfectTablePlan now supports macOS 10.13 through to macOS 13.x, for Intel and M1/M2 ARM chips.

Apple have changed their hardware from using Intel chips to using their own ARM M1/M2 chips. Previous versions of PerfectTablePlan were Intel binaries on Mac. This means that newer Macs with Apple ARM chips were using Rosetta2 emulation to run PerfectTablePlan. This new release contains both ARM and Intel binaries together in a Universal binary, so it can run natively on both ARM and Intel Macs. This should make PerfectTablePlan run faster on ARM Macs, which should be noticeable when using automatic seat assignment for larger events.
