PerfectTablePlan
v3.1.0 now available
I
haven't been out of the house in days, there is no food in the fridge
and I am down to my last pair of clean socks. It must be time
to release a new version of PerfectTablePlan.
This release has been a long time coming due to
the addition of over 50 enhancements. The key new features are:
- improved floor planning (titles, shapes, snap
to grid etc)
- more responsive for larger plans
- built-in PDF export
We have also fixed a few bugs from v3.0.8. Best of
all we have decided to release it as v3.1 which means that it is a free upgrade for all
customers with a valid v3 licence. If you only
have a v1 or v2 licence you will need to upgrade
to get a v3 licence.
This
is a 'beta' release, prior to the official product release in a few
weeks time. As such it isn't production quality. We recommend
you
back up any plan files
before installing it and keep using the last stable release
(v3.0.8) for 'mission critical' tasks. We make beta releases
available so that customers can inform us of any bugs or issues that we
haven't spotted in our
own extensive testing. Please let
us know
of any bugs or problems you find so that we can fix them before the
production release. If we don't know about a problem, we can't fix it.

Performance
improvements in v3.1.0
When
we first launched PerfectTablePlan we considered 500 guests to be a
large event. But our customers have been using the software for ever
larger events, so we have put a lot of effort into making
PerfectTablePlan v3.1 suitable for large table plans, including:
- faster loading
- faster screen updates
- faster automatic seat assignment
- faster export
Our
tests show that v3.1.0 is between 10 and 100 times faster than v3.0.8
for a range of tasks on a 1,500 guest plan. The improvements
are
less radical for smaller plans, but still noticeable.
The
largest event we know that PerfectTablePlan was used for was
3,000
guests(!). Please let us know if you have used it for a larger event.
MacOSX Intel and 10.5
(Leopard) support
PerfectTablePlan
v3.1.0 is now available as a universal binary for
MacOSX. This should further improve the performance on
Intel-based Macs.
We
haven't yet completed testing of PerfectTablePlan 3.1.0 with MacOSX
10.5. But early indications are that it works fine, with some
minor issues. For example dragging from the Apple AddressBook
to PerfectTablePlan doesn't work, but you can drag from Apple
AddressBook to the desktop and then from the desktop to
PerfectTablePlan. Please let us know if you find any other
issues.
Integrating with
online RSVP tracking
There are a number of online services that allow
you to send out and track RSVPs online, including:
You
can use these services to take care of some of the more tedious
administration required for planning an event. Best of all you can then
export your guest+RSVP data into a CSV file and import it straight into
PerfectTablePlan using the built-in evite and sendomatic import
formats. Just select the appropriate file type from the File type drop-down
list in the PerfectTablePlan Import
window and it will attempt to do the appropriate mapping of columns to
fields.
Evite.com is supported by advertising.
Sendomatic.com charge a fee.
Windows 98 no longer
supported
The
number of people using Windows 98 has been dropping steadily to the
point where it no longer makes economical sense for us to support
Windows 98. We have therefore dropped Windows 98 support for the latest
release. PerfectTablePlan v3.1.0 may work OK on Windows 98, but we
haven't tested it. If you have Windows 98 you can continue to use
PerfectTablePlan v3.0.8. Or maybe it is time to treat yourself
to
a new PC?
