Perfect Table Plan - create a table seating plan for your wedding or event

PerfectTablePlan v3.1.1

This release adds bug fixes and major new features to v3.0.8. You will require a version 3 licence key to unlock the full functionality.

We recommend that you back-up any important plan files before installing any new release.

The download links are at the bottom of the page.

Backward/forward compatibility

3.1.1 can read plan (.tp) files saved by any earlier version of PerfectTablePlan.

Reading 3.1.1 plans into versions of the software before 3.1.0 may lose some data.

System requirements

PerfectTablePlan runs on Windows 2000 or later and MacOSX 10.3.9 or later. It has been successfully tested on the new Windows Vista and MacOSX 10.5 operating systems. More detailed system requirements are here.

Enhancements

The following enhancements have been made since version 3.0.8:

Windows and Macintosh

1. Captioned rectangles, squares, ellipses and circles can now be added to the Floor plan pane to show the locations of objects such as dance floors, podiums and walls. [Added in 3.1.0]

text and shapes

2. Text can now be added to the Floor plan pane as titles, footers and captions. [Added in 3.1.0]

3. The Floor plan, Table plan, Table chart, Guest chart and Statistics panes can now be exported directly to a PDf file without having to use third party software, such as PDF-Creator. PDF files can be printed to large sizes without significant loss of quality. [Added in 3.1.0]

4. There have been major performance improvements for reading in plans, displaying plans and automatically assigning guests to seats. The improvements are particularly marked for large plan files (1000+ guests). [Added in 3.1.0]

5. The Insert guests scratch-pad window has been added. This allows you to quickly add guests by just typing/pasting their names into a text editor, one group per line. This is quicker than using Insert single guest etc. [Added in 3.1.0]

6. PerfectTablePlan can now check for software updates automatically. You can set it to check for updates monthly, weekly or never in the Preferences window (the default is weekly). It will only advise the availability of updates, you still have to download and install the update from a web page. [Added in 3.1.0]

7. If you lose your licence key you can now have it resent using the Licensing>Retrieve key menu item. This accesses the Retrieve key page on our website. [Added in 3.1.0]

8. A How do I? help button has been added to the tool bar. Click on this button to get context-sensitive suggestions of tasks you might need help with. [Added in 3.1.0]

9. A grid can optionally be drawn on the Floor plan pane. The centres of tables, shapes and text can also be snapped to a separate grid. [Added in 3.1.0]

10. The number of total, assigned or unassigned seats can be clearly displayed by selecting the appropriate item from the Tables drop-down list at the top of the Floor plan pane. The appropriate number is shown in the centre of the table. Unassigned seats are shown with a red cross through them. [Added in 3.1.0]

11. Tables, shapes and text in the Floor plan pane can now be ‘moved to back’ to control the stacking order (i.e. which item appears on top of which). [Added in 3.1.0]

12. The Floor plan and Table plan panes are now drawn with anti-aliasing, for smoother edges. [Added in 3.1.0]

13. You can now display RSVP status in the Floor plan and Table plan panes. [Added in 3.1.0]

show rsvp

14. You can now display meals choices using colour codes in the Floor plan pane. Each meal is displayed in a different colour (up to 10 colours). If you have more than one course (e.g. “soup, fish, ice cream”) the courses will be displayed as concentric rings: outer ring=first course, second ring=second course etc. [Added in 3.1.0]

17. You can now change guest/group/table in the Guest properties, Group properties and Table properties windows using the first/previous/next/last buttons at the bottom left of the window. [Added in 3.1.0]

property window navigation

18. You can now change the selected table or seat in the Floor plan and Table plan panes using Alt+Left arrow and Alt+Right arrow (change table) and Alt+Up arrow and Alt+Down arrow (change seat). [Added in 3.1.0]

19. There is now an option to display the group name in Guest chart and Table chart panes. [Added in 3.1.0]

20. There is now an option to sort Table chart guests by seat number, by name or by VIP status then name (previously they were always sorted by seat). Sorting by name is useful if you are assigning guests to tables, rather than seats (you can also hide seat numbers). Individual guest names are sorted by last name then first name. Groups of guests are sorted by the group name. [Added in 3.1.0]

21. You can now choose the format for new table names in the Preferences window. See below for examples. You can rename the tables at any point using the Table properties window. [Added in 3.1.0]

Example table names

Table {next_table_num}

“Table 1”, “Table 2”, “Table 3”

{next_table_num}

“1”, “2” , “3”

22. Text in the Stationery pane is now rotated in multiples of 90 degrees (it was 180 degrees previously). [Added in 3.1.0]

23. Avery 5302 small tent cards have been added to the pre-defined database of stationery layouts. [Added in 3.1.0]

24. The mouse wheel behaviour in the Floor plan and Table plan panes can now be configured in the Preferences window to zoom in, zoom out or scroll down when you scroll the mouse wheel backwards (previously it would only zoom in or scroll up). [Added in 3.1.0]

25. Locked guests are now shown with underlined text in the Schematic pane. Cancelled/declined guests are now shown with strikethrough text in the Schematic pane. [Added in 3.1.0]

26. The number of guests assigned to seats is now shown in the Status bar. [Added in 3.1.0]

27. Guests can now optionally be auto assigned to seats completely randomly i.e. assigned to seats without taking account of proximity, gender or VIP status. This can be useful for some types of event. Just select randomly from the Auto assign tab of the Preferences window. [Added in 3.1.0]

28. A simple summary of the number of guests, groups, tables and seats has been added at the top of the Statistics pane. [Added in 3.1.0]

report summary

29. If you create a stationery item per guest you can now sort the stationery items by table and seat number or by guest name (only by guest name was available previously). To sort by table select Table+seat from the Sort by drop-down list at the top of the Stationery pane. This is only available if Item per is set to Guest. This feature should make it easier to set up place cards if you have hundreds of guests. [Added in 3.1.0]

30. Most windows will now prompt you if you exit without making a change. [Added in 3.1.0]

31. The date format in the Information window and the date/time format of time-stamps now conform to your system locale. For example if you have set your locale to the USA you should see MM/DD/YYYY format dates and if you have set your local to the UK you should see DD/MM/YYYY format dates. You can change your locale through the operating system, e.g. in Windows XP go to Control Panel>Regional and language options. You need to restart PerfectTablePlan after changing the locale to see the effect. [Added in 3.1.0]

32. The Date control in the Information window now has a pop-up calendar. [Added in 3.1.0]

33. A Table order button has been added to the Schematic pane. [Added in 3.1.0]

34. A Titles button has been added to the Import window. This allows you to configure titles without closing the Import window. [Added in 3.1.0]

35. There is now an option in Preferences window to show toolbar icons as small (24x24) or large (32x32). You can change the icon size by checking/unchecking the large toolbar icons check box in the Preferences window. [Added in 3.1.0]

36. There is now an option to display explanatory text under each tool bar icon. You can turn the text on or off by checking/unchecking the toolbar text check box in the Preferences window. [Added in 3.1.0]

37. Expand all and Collapse all buttons have been added to the Groups pane and the Schematic pane. These buttons can be used to quickly show or hide all the ‘child’ items in these panes. Click on the More/Reveal button to access them. [Added in 3.1.0]

38. PerfectTablePlan now remembers the last folders you used for importing, exporting and stationery separately from the last folder you used for plan files. This is more convenient if you are using separate folders for each. [Added in 3.1.0]

39. The names of non-circular/non-square tables are now rotated with the table. This is particularly useful for banquet/head tables with long names. [Added in 3.1.0]

rotated tables names

40. Proximity lines are now drawn transparently in the Floor plan and Table plan panes for improved visualisation. [Added in 3.1.0]

41. The shading colour (e.g. used for alternate rows in the Guests pane) is now derived from the theme selected for Windows/MacOSX.

42. The text for a seat (e.g. the name of the guest assigned to the seat) can now expand outside the seat. This allows the use of larger fonts size. But it may also result in separate blocks of text overlapping, so it should be used with caution. [Added in 3.1.0]

43. Printing orientation can now be changed more easily using the orientation drop-down list in the Print window. [Added in 3.1.0]

44. Import of full names such as “Mr & Mrs J. Smith” is now better handled (parsed as “Mr J. Smith”+”Mrs Smith”, rather than “Mr Smith + Mrs J. Smith”). [Added in 3.1.0]

45. Lighter colours are now used for visualising groups of guests in the Floor plan and Table plan panes. This should make it easier to read dark text. [Added in 3.1.0]

46. The Print window now remembers the Fit to page and Centred settings from the last printout. [Added in 3.1.0]

47. There are now separate versions of the documentation for Windows and Macintosh. [Added in 3.1.0]

48. The positioning of the legend in the Table plan pane has been improved. [Added in 3.1.0]

6. If you are using colours to visualise groups in the Floor plan or Table plan pane, these colours are now correctly updated when a guest is moved from one group to another. [Fixed in 3.1.0]

Known issues

The following are known issues in version 3.1.1:

Windows and Macintosh

1. We have dropped support for exporting the Floor plan and Table plan panes in SVG (vector) format. This is due to bugs in third party libraries that we have not been able to workaround.

Windows only

1. If you uninstall version 2 after installing version 3 it may remove the associations between PerfectTablePlan and .tp files and remove the themes data file. You can fix this by re-installing version 3 again. This shouldn’t affect your plan files, but you should back-up important plan files first anyway.

Macintosh only

1. In MacOSX 10.5 it is no longer possible to drag contacts directly from the Apple Address Book application to PerfectTablePlan. Instead you have to drag the contacts from Apple Address Book to the desktop and then from the desktop to PerfectTablePlan. This appears to be a bug in an underlying library. We hope it will be fixed soon.
